Impressed by the showmen of a traveling circus she vowed to someday achieve a feat that would be noted by the entire world. Upon visiting Niagara Falls in 1900, she proclaimed this would be the site of her event to claim the eye of the world. Using a barrel built to her own specifications, on October 24, 1901 Annie was cast adrift in the swift Canadian currents above Horseshoe Falls. Within minutes she was brought ashore below the falls shaken but with only a few bruises and bumps from the experience.
