Dec 25 1873, with another two-line poem on the next blank. Front free endpaper removed, small dealer bookplate on rear endpaper. viii, 473 pp. 8vo. 6-page terminal publisher ad. Engraved frontispiece. A firsthand account of adventures in the Alps, featuring sections on The Matterhorn and Mont Blanc, among others. A description of ice and glaciers, with an account of a voyage to Algeria to view an eclipse, is included also under a separate title page (p. 337). Tyndall was a prominent physicist, credited with popularizing experimental physics through the publication of over a dozen works on the subject. He is particularly well known for his discoveries in infrared radiation and the physical properties of air.
