A few pages have small spots on the fore edge margin or are lightly foxed, but overall an excellent set. 1823 Hard Cover. liv, 315; 332 pp. 16mo. Though Macpherson attributes these works to Ossian and credits himself as the translator, the prevailing opinion among critics is that Macpherson wrote the poems himself, basing them on folk tales he collected, and Ossian is a fabricated narrator. Regardless of authorship, the work was quite successful, and influenced the Romantic movement and Gaelic revival in literature.
