Newly revised edition, includes new index, an analysis of subjects, and illustrations by Hector Giacomelli, best known for his work with Gustave Dore on his famous edition of the Bible. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jules Michelet (21 August 1798 9 February 1874) was a French historian. He was born in Paris to a family with Huguenot traditions... Hector Giacomelli, born in Paris on April 1, 1822 and died in Menton on December 1, 1904. He was a watercolorist, french engraver and illustrator, best known for his paintings of birds. He studied with Gustave Dore, worked on newspapers such as The World Illustrated, The Store Picturesque, and Illustration and illustrated works by authors such as Jules Michelet & Alfred de Musset.
