A 19th century domestic medical guide, with chapters on: Doctor at Home; Miscellaneous Department of Health, Medical Hints, Etc.; Diseases of Infants and Children; Roots and Herbs; Every Lady's Cook Book; Choice Medical Compounds: Valuable to Every Family; Indian Recipes; Ladies' and Gentlemen's Polite Teacher; Hints to Young Ladies; Chairman's Guide, or Rules of Debate for Public Meetings; Manual for Farmers and Their Wives. Hoolihan S-461.5: Hall published several popular manuals on health, domestic science, business and farm management during the 1840s and 1850s, including H.B. Skinner's American Prize Book, which similarly combines herbal medicine and practical advice on other topics. It would not be surprising, in fact, if the 'Good Samaritan' on the title-page were Henry Burchstead Skinner.
