1940 reissue (based on titles on rear jacket panel), with cover design emulating the 1929 Scribner edition. 3 inch tear to jacket spine head, 2 inch closed tear to front jacket edge, jacket edges rubbed with minimal loss from corners. The story of a troubled romance, set against the Italian campaign of World War I. Hemingway's third novel, and his first bestseller, which confirmed his status as one of the great's of American literature. He went on to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 and the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954.
