Tours: Ad Mame et Cie. 1840. 19th century book safe, constructed from an 1840 copy of F. Valentin's Abrege de l'Histoire des Croisades (1095-1295), retaining the first 22 pages of the text (ostensibly to further the illusion), with mirrored inlay and a color illustration mounted on the front board. Quite convincing as a book when looking at the spine or boards, though a glance at the page ridges gives it away, despite the marbled design of the safe compartment's exterior edges. Interior compartment lined with marbled paper, and measuring 5 1/2 x 2 3/4 x 3/8. Ideal for stashing a rainy day fund of paper currency, or small valuables such as jewelry or photographs. KEYWORDS: BOOK SAFE BLOOK BLOOKS Condition Notes: Spine rubbed, spine leather drying, deterioration to mirrored inlays, pages lightly foxed.
