Churchill's second book, written while an officer in the British army, and definitely the scarcest of his works. This edition to this day is the only unexpurgated version of the work -- later editions were abridged to one volume, and removed several passages that were deemed too critical of Lord Kitchener. The first print run was 2000 copies, followed by 500-copy second and third print runs (Woods 20). The book tells of the conflict between Kitchener and the Dervish forces of Khalifa Abdallahi ibn Muhammad. Reprint of Woods A2(a).
